Gathered: Vintage Rugs

There is something so special about vintage rugs. Actually, there are many things. For one, each exquisite pattern is absolutely one-of-a-kind- something that is few and far between in these days of mass production. Nothing really compares to their hand-crafted quality, and I love that each holds the story of the person that meticulously wove each row. They are also constructed of wool, which is the most durable material you can find for rugs, and an inherently renewable resource!

Did you know that wool has innate stain and soil resistance? The unique fiber structure of overlapping microscopic scales (much like roof singles) make it durable and hard wearing, while inhibiting dirt adhering to the fiber (source).

Some turkish rugs may be a pit pricey, but their quality makes them well worth the investment! Since these are considered vintage and antique, they age like fine wine and their value appreciates over time. I would also argue that they are incredibly versatile, and tend to look right at home in any style- traditional, modern, you name it! These stunning, unique rugs can become a a piece of art for your room- giving you that timeless, collected feel! Adding a runner is a fabulous way to add some texture and character to your kitchen or hallway. I love to use them as a grounding texture in a living room- the patterning will help hide any traffic patterns or even (gasp) stains! If you can’t find the perfect size as an area rug, you can even layer one over a jute rug to fill the space.

We are sharing some of our favorite vintage rug shops so you can find that perfect addition for your home. Cheers!!
